It’s hard to believe it, but overstock.com is approaching its 30th birthday. Now, before anyone contradicts me, let me point out that the site was formerly known as deals.com. That domain name was acquired by Patrick M. Byre in 1999. Later that year, sales reached 100,000 dollars for the first time. Once Byrne saw that the company was profitable, it was renamed and relaunched with a new look. Overstock ended the year 1999 with 1.8 million dollars in revenue. To make this even more impressive, they still had about 800,000 dollars’ worth of inventory left over.
The business started out with a big investment gamble that ended up paying big. They liquidated the assets of at least 18 failed internet sales companies, thus acquiring a huge inventory of goods. Because they were able to acquire these goods at sub-wholesale prices, they were able to sell them at a slight profit and thus the business got off the ground.
The company was originally just a website that dealt in secondhand merchandise. Often, they would buy goods cheaply from stores that had stocked their stores a little too heavily and needed to liquidate. Of course, that doesn’t mean that they were dealing in junk. One thing that has helped them to become the giant that they are today is the fact that they make sure not to sell people dilapidated merchandise. Now, after nearly three decades in business, they have expanded into every kind of product you can imagine, and they even sell some brand new products too.
And let’s not even get started on how many awards they have won. Actually, let’s go ahead and get started on that. In 2017, the Web Marketing Association named their mobile app as the best shopping app on the web. This was the sixth year in a row that they have won this award. In 2014, they won the Best of The Web Gold Award from Compuware. It was their third year in a row of winning this one. In 2012, they won the “Planet And People” Award from Carbonfund.org: https://www.oceanmediainc.com/overstock-wins-planet-and-people-award/
This is only a partial list of the recognition they have received.
When doing business on any commerce site, you should always look around and try to take advantage of special deals, coupons, and discounts. You might be surprised at how easy it is to find coupons. Naturally, retailers and other businesses aren’t always going to tell you about all the deals they offer. This is sometimes because they are doing something shady to charge you more, but more often it is simply that they don’t have time to recite every single promotional offer to every customer on every given day. To expect them to do such would be very unrealistic, so do your own legwork and go looking for some good coupons.
When you want to get a good deal with a minimum of hassle, the site recommended above is a hard one to beat. Why buy retail when you already know you will be paying top dollar?
